Having made my initial list of top ten ‘must see’ docs at this years Hot Docs Film Festival, I was happy to see a trailer for Brett Whitcomb’s ‘GLOW: The Story of the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling’ pop up online. The film “chronicles the rise and fall of the first ever all-female wrestling show through the stories of those who lived it.”
I wouldn’t call myself a wrestling fan, but I definitely have a nostalgic connection to the old school WWF wrestling of the 80’s. While I don’t recall ever watching Glow, it seems to fit right in with the colourful aesthetics and goofy sense of humour that I recall loving so much back in the day. I’m also really interested in this idea that this show acted as one of the first ‘reality TV shows’.
For those attending Hot Docs this year, be sure to check out the trailer above and mark it down on your list of films to see. For more info on ‘GLOW: The Story of the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling’ and how to purchase tickets, visit www.hotdocs.ca. Here are the screening dates:
