We’re already at day three of the 2011 Hot Docs Film Festival but some people are still trying to put together a schedule of films to check out. Below I’ve collected some trailers along with links to ticket info to help this process along. There are a ton of great films at the festival this year and these are just a few that immediately come to mind. Otherwise, it’s always fun to discover those hidden gems within festivals so be sure to scan the official programming schedule for yourself and see what stands out. Here are a few trailers to get you started:
Just got out of the National Parks Project. Most of the people in my row left by the end of the first hour, and the first audience question was “who the hell shot, directed, and financed this abomination?, getting some applause in agreement. Quite a dicy reception for the premiere…

… Having heard that, I enjoyed the project quite a lot, some music and direction more than others.
I think the disappointment I saw was people not digging the format, or not relating to the music. or online. I noticed that the shorts with a lot of shots indoors or of the band/actors drew some groans and caused some people to jet. I guess people were expecting a mix of Group of Seven and BBC’s Planet Earth, but with this being a multiple-platform release consisting of individual shorts on TV, web, and itunes, and a record of the soundtrack, it’s hard to please everyone when you pack it into a two-hour film reel. For better or worse, it’s part of an evolving field of documentary distribution in an age of personalized media consumption.
