American Grindhouse Trailer

Ooh I cannot wait to see this. It’s always great to watch a trailer knowing there’s a high likelihood you’re going to have a lot of fun watching the film, let alone the subject matter being something I adore. From the moment I saw the archive clip of the news item saying “It has been reported that a man has gone bezerk while watching a double-feature horror programme” I was in.

Narrated by Robert Forster, American Grindhouse boasts an incredible list of interviewees, many of whom are speaking on-camera for the first time. The list includes Allison Anders, Judy Brown, Larry Cohen, Joe Dante, Don Edmonds, David Hess, Jack Hill, Jonathan Kaplan, Jeremy Kasten, John Landis, Herschell Gordon Lewis, William Lustig, Ted V. Mikels, Bob Minor, Kim Morgan, Eddie Muller, Fred Olen Ray, Eric Schaefer, Lewis Teague, James Gordon White and Fred Williamson.

American Grindhouse is the first feature-length documentary from Director Elijah Drenner and is in the Spotlight Premieres section of this year’s SXSW.

SXSW Synopsis: The feature-length documentary “American Grindhouse” explores the hidden history of the American Exploitation Film. The movie digs deep into this often overlooked category of U.S. cinema and unearths the shameless and occasionally shocking origins of this popular entertainment. Exploitation Cinema has left an indelible mark on American culture, and this informative and amusing documentary proves that its principles–and popularity–endure to this day.

I’d also recommend visiting their website (be warned it has embedded music…grr) because they have a great selection of original grindhouse trailers. And I’d also suggest checking out the director’s blog here.
