Oscilloscope Pictures Acquires Michel Gondry’s The Thorn in the Heart

Beastie Boy Adam Yauch’s indie film distribution imprint Oscilloscope Laboratories has picked up the North American rights to yet another intriguing documentary for theatrical, DVD and digital release. This time around it is Michel Gondry’s The Thorn In The Heart (L’Epine Dans Le Coeur) that they have added to their line-up, a film about Gondry’s aunt Suzette, her relationship with her son, and her life as a school teacher in rural France.

While the film received mixed reviews at Cannes, where it was described by some as being nothing more than a pointless home movie about someone else’s family, Oscilloscope seems to have a knack for picking out diamonds in the rough. A previous Oscilloscope release, Kurt Kuenne’s Dear Zachary, was also a home movie of sorts (albeit a very emotionally charged one). I liked Gondry’s previous doc Dave Chappelle’s Block Party too, although I suppose it was more of a concert film than anything else. The release date for The Thorn In The Heart is still TBA, but we’ll let you know whenever a trailer pops up for it.
