Trailer: ‘The Future is Unwritten: Joe Strummer’

joe_strummer2.jpgAlthough I really sort of detest The Sex Pistols, I thought Julien Temple’s ‘The Filth and the Fury’ was an interesting look at the formation of the, in my opinion, highly overrated so-called godfathers of punk. (If only the phony Sex Pistols mania had bitten the dust LONG before Johnny Rotten’s unfortunate appearance on Judge Judy.) Temple’s mish-mash of mixed media archival footage was a suitable cinematic hodgepodge, reminiscent of the D.I.Y. punk asthetic. Although he really isn’t a filmmaker that I ‘watch for’, I have to say my interest was piqued by the news of his next documentary feature; ‘The Future is Unwritten: Joe Strummer’. Of course you all must know of Joe Strummer and The Clash, and some may even agree that they, alongside The Ramones, are more deserving of the title ‘Punk Warlords’ than Malcolm McLaren’s bad boy clothing advertisement, ‘The Pistols’. Either way, Strummer’s life is now forever immortalized on the big screen this summer, and critics seem to be digging it. I’ve just checked out the trailer over at the films official website, and ‘The Future is Unwritten’ definitely stays true to Temple’s well executed rockumentary style. Although i’m not that familiar with the life story of Strummer, I do think, as a character, he’s less annoying and tiresomely ‘shocking’ than say, Johnny Rotten, and holds more musical talent in his pinky finger than say, Sid Vicious. So follow the link below and check out the official trailer for ‘The Future is Unwritten: Joe Strummer’.
