Wet Dreamers: The Song of the Bionic Dolphin

bionic.jpgSo I was watching Tom Green Live (you should really check out this show) the other day, and his guest was Dave England of Jackass fame. I’m a pretty big Jackass fan believe it or not, and was enjoying Dave’s stories about urinating on a hot iron to create a ‘piss cloud’ when he mentioned a project he’d been working on for a couple of years with a friend of his. He said it was a documentary about the creators of the ‘Bionic Dolphin’. I wasn’t sure what exactly was up with this, but then Tom showed a clip and my interest was piqued. Here’s a synopsis from the official website:

‘Tom “Doc” Rowe and Dennis “Dusty” Kaiser had a dream. To fly under water in a Bionic Dolphin. Unfortunately, this dream and a Mcgyver like ability to make anything out of nothing was about all they had. But they wouldn’t let a little thing like very little money, garage sale tools and no roof over their head stop them from following what was most surely their destiny. To design and build a one of a kind craft unlike anything the world had ever seen. A craft that would allow them to do anything a dolphin could on the open seas.’

I’ve checked out the trailer, and I have to say it looked pretty darn good. I was sort of unfairly expecting another Jackass side project full of extreme sports and puking, but this has a charm to it that i really didn’t expect. (Not that the Jackass boys aren’t charming!) I just love films about passionate people, and Wet Dreamers seems to fit the bill. Not only does this ‘Bionic Dolphin’ truly look like a technological marvel, but there also seems to be some pretty interesting stories surrounding its creation. (Apparently it even appeared in an episode of Seaquest DSV! YESSSSS) Do yourself a favour and visit the Wet Dreamers website and have a look at the trailer. You can also view some bonus clips from the film in the video gallery on the Bionic Dolphin website.
