Freedom Fuels Trailer Online

biodieselbottle.jpgHere’s another film to add to the growing list of environmentally friendly documentaries. Director Martin O’Brien’s Freedom Fuels takes a look at the battle being waged by average citizens in the bio-fuel wars. I’m sure you’ve heard it before: Bio-Diesel could potentially replace gasoline as a cheaper and cleaner alternative fuel source, but the big oil companies will do anything in their power to stop such a threat, even if it’s ultimately the best solution. Here’s the synopsis of the film:

Freedom Fuels takes an in-depth look at renewable fuel sources, such as bio-diesel, ethanol and vegetable oil. It explores the interaction of the petroleum industry and alternative fuels over the last 150 years, and examines the global impact that bio-fuels can have on our future.

I didn’t think i’d really go for this film, but after watching the trailer, there’s a certain charm to the idea of average people retro-fitting their vehicles on their own terms as a sort of ‘screw you’ to the big oil companies. On a side note, one of my favourite bands, the now defunct Man Or Astro-Man?, has a part to play in the history of Bio-Diesel. Ex bass guitarist Robert del Bueno (otherwise known as Coco The Electronic Monkey Wizard) is a great example of an average guy making the seemingly easy coversion from gas chugging destroyer of nature to McDonald’s french-fry-grease consuming naturalist. Check out this article on his bio-fuel experimentation, and then have a look at Del Bueno and his band/bio-diesel car in the videos below!

UPDATE: Sean has brought it to my attention that the film is actually available in its entirety for free at the website below! BONUS.
